00 - BACKGROUND

THIS SUMMER, I WORKED AS A UI/UX DESIGN INTERN AT SEAM...

Seam is an AI-driven automated Go-To-Market (GTM) startup company.

Integrating multiple tools and services into a single application, Seam offers customizable GTM playbooks for customer acquisition, retention, and revenue growth. Each playbook covers data collection, analysis, action automation, impact analysis, and iterative improvement. Seam automates tasks such as company customer lifetime value assessments, lead score generation, and content optimization, focusing on delivering direct results. The platform ensures significant ROI, reduces development time and costs, and maintains a user-friendly design.

02 - SOLUTION

WORKING CLOSELY WITH MY FELLOW DESIGN TEAM, I COMPLETED THE  FOLLOWING...

01 - PROBLEM

Who are Seam's users?

> Seam's target demographic includes mid-sized to large B2B companies, led by growth-focused teams in sales, marketing, and customer success. These companies prioritize data-driven strategies, automation, and efficiency to optimize customer acquisition, retention, and revenue in competitive markets.

What do they want?

> B2B companies often face challenges in optimizing their GTM strategies due to time-consuming tasks that can delay growth. These companies require a solution that automates these processes, provides actionable insights, and enables efficient tracking of growth, all within an accessible and user-friendly platform.

What can our team do?

> Our team set out to accommodate the needs of B2B companies by automating tasks like lead scoring and partner research, which typically take weeks, if not months, to complete. We developed a platform that allows users to access customizable GTM playbooks, receive AI-generated documents, and track growth through an intuitive GTM map diagram. Seam's AI also responds intuitively to user requests, ensuring that the platform is accessible and digestible, streamlining complex processes while empowering businesses to make informed, data-driven decisions with ease.

03 - IDEATION

We recognized that a platform that holds such massive potential to significantly enhance business performance through complex systems must feature a streamlined and intuitive user interface and determined that the following approach would be most effective through the high-fidelity wireframes created from our CEO's ideas.

04 - ITERATIONS

Upon establishing the design model of the base functions and screens, I created a plethora of design iterations using various color schemes and interface layouts to define Seam's visual identity and evaluated their pros and cons.

originaldesign.png

Our very first design...

was reviewed by the CEO and the rest of our design team but was deemed too similar to ChatGPT's existing user interface.

To differentiate Seam, we created more designs, experimenting with different colors and layouts!

Navigation Design

Home.png

A. Top-across sidebar

A navigation bar that runs across the top deviates from the ChatGPT's left-side index/sidebar takes up too much space considering one of Seam's main features is an AI chat log.

B. Floating sidebar

A floating navigation bar that stands on the left side is less visually imposing, deviates from the solid navigation bars (such as ChatGPT), and is unique in design to Seam.

C. Text-based sidebar

A text-based sidebar works well with most interface designs, but does not allow much for visually striking designs that would define a brand's visual development.

Chat Design

Chat.png

A. Standard chat room

A full-screen standard design chat room allows users to interact (save, modify, expand, etc.) with Seam's AI-generated files and visual information in full-scale.

B. Split chat room

A chat screen where the chat log is on the left and generated information appears on the right. This fails to work as not all user chat inputs are intended to inquire for file-generation.

Chat Positioning Design

Design2HomeNochat.png

A. Separate chat room

With an additional chat section on the sidebar, this design eliminates the chat box from the dashboard screen, allowing for unobstructed dashboard view of modules.

B. Dashboard chat box

A chat box present in the home screen allows users to interact with Seam's AI to manage their modules and create changes, create docs, and more when necessary.

Color Scheme Design

A. Soft color palettes

Softer color palettes are less visually striking and thus softer and cause less eye strain. We can work with various shades of a base color to convey visual hierarchy between components.

B. Dark color palettes

Darker color palettes are commonly associated with professional tech-related designs such as AI services. Accent colors could be used to add flair and build brand identity.

C. Neutral color palette

A neutral color palette (blue/gray) combines the benefits of dark and soft color palettes. Various shades establish visual hierarchy while maintaining a professional-tech related theme and feel for users.

05 - PROTOTYPING

UPON FINALIZING THE DESIGN MODEL OF SEAM, I CREATED THE FOLLOWING HIGH-FIDELITY PROTOTYPES...

Influencer Outreach Chat Input

This first prototype displays the user interacting with the dashboard modules, using Seam's AI to create a list of influencers for outreach, and developing a message to reach out to the list. The end screen shows an updated dashboard that allows the user to monitor the outreach progress.

Lead Scoring Playbook

This second prototype displays a user using a playbook for lead score generation. The playbook guides the user through each step, from company prospecting and attribute score assignments to lead priority valuing and final lead score generation. In addition, this playbook also utitlizes Seam's AI algorithms to conduct predictive modeling to aid the user in better understanding the value of each prospect and their final lead scores.

07 - REFLECTION

Working at a startup!

My first non-academic, non-student organization, professional design position...

And what a way to kick it off with an enthusiastic, engaging, and fast-paced team at a competitive startup company with such massive potential for changing real-life businesses.

This experience allowed me to gain firsthand experience at the impact of a UI/UX designer, better learn the ins-and-outs of a professional designer position, and how to best apply the practices that I've learned through my courses, past internships, extracurricular positions, and solo projects.

Truly putting my design capabilities to the test and learning from experienced individuals in the product design world, I was able to hone my skillset by learning how to make effective and intuitive designs as efficiently as possible. I got the opportunity to learn from other designers to improve my technical design skills (using preset libraries, developing effective components, conveying information through color and typography, piecing together complex prototypes, and more).

Challenging, but immensely gratifying, I'm excited to apply my learnings from this position to my future career work.

Thanks for stopping by.
